They say a team is only as strong as its weakest link. With this in mind, it's essential to focus on recruiting and training our lead staff, as it represents a vital investment in our human capital. We believe in-service and training for managers and head lifeguards are often missing in many facilities.
These individuals are typically promoted for their technical skills, but once in leadership roles, they need support in running training, conducting meetings, and developing their lifeguards. The critical question is: how are we nurturing their growth?
Manager and head lifeguard in-services should encompass skill development, leadership training, and operational knowledge. We propose structuring these in-services similarly to those provided for lifeguards, as we often refer to manager in-services as "forgotten training."
To empower our management teams, we recommend starting with comprehensive management courses. The stronger the training, the more capable our management will be.
